What is the hiring process like at Nextdoor?

      Nextdoor reviews

Strong brand and team, but slower pace than startups

      Recruiter
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Glassdoor is a genuinely mission-driven company, and it feels good recruiting for a product that helps people make better career decisions. The brand is strong, so candidates are usually excited to engage. The recruiting team was supportive and collaborative, with smart people who actually want to help each other succeed. You get exposure to a wide range of roles and strong partnerships with hiring managers. Tools, data, and processes are solid, and work-life balance is better than most tech companies. Benefits and DEI focus are also strong.

      Cons

Things can feel slow and process-heavy, with lots of approvals and shifting priorities. Recruiting is very metrics-driven, which can sometimes feel more like activity tracking than true talent strategy. Career growth for recruiters is somewhat limited.

Hey neighbor, thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your experience so far.

      It was fine

      Pros

Ability to recruit top engineers working on complex systems

      Cons

The initiatives often fell through, hiring targets were very chaotic and sporadic. Very leadership heavy in this company, especially in HR.

A great balance of kindness, talent, and enthusiasm

      Business Outlook

      Pros

In the interview process, I appreciated how candid, down to earth, and talented the people I spoke to were. After onboarding, I've experienced the same as we work together in meetings and strategizing. Being in the office a few days a week has been a great way to meet people and connect with the team, while the WFH days help me stay caught up on work. I haven't had this much fun at work since before the pandemic.

      Cons

The only con that comes to mind is the office location. I like that it's very transit friendly, but wish the immediate neighborhood was a little cleaner and safer. Once you're inside, the office itself is very nicely equipped.

      Very Toxic Leadership

      Business Outlook

      Pros

The only thing that kept me here was my colleagues Client Partner, Account Managers, and Ad Ops across the mid-market team. Everything else, including leadership was horrible.

      Cons

You really don't know whats going to happen tomorrow working at Nextdoor. -One month after starting there was a 25% mass layoff across the whole company. - New CEO changes months later -Was assigned a new leader halfway through my time NB. By far the worst people leader and worst manager I have ever had in my entire life. I felt like I was being watched at every moment of the day, and since there was seniority here, all of this behavior was brushed under the rug and dismissed. Even when brought up to senior leadership and HR. There was one point of my job scope where she asked to be CC'ed on 100% of my client outreach, after reaching of quota 125% in Q1 2024. Literally no people management skills whatsoever. There was obviously an over control issue with remote managing, and many other team members that felt this way. Myself and other members were scared to ask questions and she would give snarky responses saying that we should know this information already. ND should hire people leaders that have strong leader characteristics instead of junior level managers that do not know how to manage a team and be collaborative and supportive. Literally a joke! -Senior leadership leaving without any jobs lined up. Many sales leads left the company with new opportunities, or no opportunities at all. Total red flag. -We were required to go into the office three times a week starting May 2024, when working there for 8 months it didn't seem like working remote or in your designated office location was an issue. There were remote employees located in different parts of California, Texas, etc. My manager would contact other team members in the office to make sure her team members were there, as she was located in Chicago and couldn't micromanage that. Super toxic. -Sales leaders for Mid Market all gossip together and felt like I was back in high school. The head of sales slacks us directly about accounts nonstop- why is this happening? There obviously is no communication between upper management. Learn how to effectively run a sales team and communicate between upper management positions about accounts. - I was laid off my role one month ago with no reasoning or any information how the decision was made. I asked for data driven reasoning and I wasn't supplied any information, and my whole team (besides my manager) was happy with me. Literally had so much anxiety working here. Please stay away from this place and especially mid market sales. Such a relief to be gone!
