What is the hiring process like at Novo Nordisk?

      Pros

Great work culture and good managers.

      Cons

Interview process for the role was little longer.

Back in the day it was good

      Pros

Free food, snacks and fancy coffee Free car charging Parking garage

      Cons

People have become backstabbers because the culture has become so toxic there. Leadership is savage and it's not a healthy environment to be in because of the high level of toxicity. Interview process is ridiculous, even when you are internal. Hard to be promoted and very top heavy.

      Racial discrimination.

      Pros

Reputable name. Acceptable pay and benefits. Some departments are international, with nice colleagues. Great projects.

      Cons

Hypocrisy of the HR team and management regarding DE&I policies. It is highlighted on their website but in reality they do practice racial discrimination during the hiring process. I have witnessed it first hand while participating in the interview of a potential new employee. The hiring manager was surprised and annoyed to see that the candidate was not Caucasian, wondering ‘who let this guy in...' He interviewed so much better than the other candidate (who was white), had better credentials overall (higher qualifications, experience etc). Both interviewers gave this guy a hard time, I felt bad for him. Not only did they reject him and pick the other very average guy (who was white), but they also told HR to block him so he could not get hired by anyone else in the company. TRUE FACTS. I was so disgusted by such hypocrisy and lack of humanity that I resigned after this. People need to know about their practices. In Denmark, racism at Novo Nordisk is prevalent. They have this sense of superiority. It is appalling, and it comes from the top.

      Disappointing

      Pros

Great to be a part of such a global endeavor. Great projects. Decent pay and benefits. Nice colleagues depending on the department.

      Cons

Their DEI policy is a pretense. The 'filtering' happens at the hiring manager's level. The management teams are uniformly white and Danes. I saw one of them rejects a candidate perfectly qualified for the role (well above the other short-listed applicants) because he did not have the 'right' skin color. We were 3 people interviewing that candidate, two of them behaved very disrespectfully, displayed negative body language to make him feel uncomfortable. Like they couldn’t believe he made it to the interview. I suspect they blocked him at the HR level after that interview so he can never get in and have a chance with someone else, in another department. The SVP who did that had been working in NN for 25 years. I quit shortly after this incident because that level of hypocrisy is disheartening. I wish more people would speak up about it because NN Copenhagen is a racist company. The higher you get in the hierarchy the more biased they are and they intend to keep it that way because they feel so superior. What a disgrace. I am glad I left.

      Pros

Chill work life balance, ok perks, relaxed ways of working.

      Cons

The it department is in shambles and fighting with the users they actually need to support, because they know best 🙁 in reality they can’t deliver much for the scientists because they don’t understand the domain, nor are they willing to collaborate, there is also competing mangers hiring way to many people that end up not having anything to do. I have never seen such a disaster. Internally there is even competition between the domain aligned units and the so called innovation unit.

A culture which supports trust and growth

      Pros

Novo has a talent to hire exeptional talented people who are inclusive in their mindset. I loved working and collaborating with people across the organisation. The culture is supporting and positive focusing on delivering results through collaboration.

      Cons

A huge growth the past years has put pressure on structures and in some areas roles and responsibilities are not clear. But this should be changing now.

A very corporate environment, poor junior leadership

      Senior medical writer
      Former employee
      Søborg
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Relatively good salary. Yearly bonus, Great colleagues.

      Cons

The level of junior management is very low. I have had three direct managers, and for all of them it was their first experience as a people manager. They tended to focus primarily on their own perceived performance as seen by their managers. They were highly ambitious for themselves, but not necessarily for their teams. From discussions with colleagues, I know that not all managers behave this way. More experienced managers do see the true value of their employees, recognize their potential, and actively work to develop them within the team. There are EVOLVE questionnaires (team feedback) conducted twice a year. However, frequent reorganizations—on average once a year—mean that, in practice, this feedback becomes largely ineffective. Finally, promotions are essentially non-transparent and lack equal opportunity. Unfortunately, advancement often appears to be driven more by networking than by performance.

      Culturally Good company

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Wonderful stakeholders — collaborative, supportive, and great to work with. Excellent work-life balance, with flexibility and respect for personal time. Generous leave policy, making it easy to maintain personal and professional balance. Strong insurance coverage and employee benefits package.

      Cons

Technical learning and upskilling opportunities are slower compared to other consulting firms, which can impact career growth. Promotions tend to happen at a slower pace, making career progression feel stagnant at times. While work-life balance is generally good, it heavily depends on the affiliate you are working with—setting clear boundaries on work hours is important. Compensation is lower compared to industry standards. Although there are internal job postings, the process is quite rigid; years of experience often outweigh capability, limiting opportunities for talented employees with shorter tenure but strong domain knowledge.
