What is the hiring process like at Qantas?

      Qantas reviews

      Good people, not enough opportunities

      Pros

      - People, managers and mentors are quite nice - Great flight discounts - Everyone is passionate about the work that they do

      Cons

      - Limited opportunities for graduates. If you are applying as a graduate, remember that they won't hand you a job at the end of the program. You have to go through the entire interview process like any other employee. - People don't take graduates very seriously and don't provide ownership of tasks

Great people, good pay and benefits but lots of red tape

      Pros

Nice culture, lots of events and celebrates inclusion and diversity Staff travel benefits are amazing!!! Great team Good Pay + Bonus Flexible working arrangements and great work life balance (1-3 days in office)

      Cons

Slow recruitment process (2 months) Tough to get anything over the line, everyone had to be involved in every decision and very little autonomy Management don't seem invested in your growth / career Difficult to get new vendors on board even if you can prove value add

You have to learn how to navigate through the noise

      Pros

Pros: Amazing brand you would be proud as punch to work for! The staff travel perks are definitely a bonus and seem to get seen as a “salary” component given their base salaries are lower than industry for tech and product roles. You get to work on some amazing truly relevant product deliverables that really delight the customer and their experience!

      Cons

I found it incredibly toxic in my first 2 months there! Almost wanted to jump ship. As they really allow toxic culture to survive and have a place there. Caveat: I found it related to people who had been at Qantas for 30+ years and who were more disgruntled with the newcomers with different skillset and agile experiences. Some of the team members who have been there a longer time have an incredible amount of sme knowledge but not necessarily up to do skillset to align with industry. But this causes a divide within the org especially in product teams if existing team members don’t necessarily see agile experience and external experience as value! You just have to figure out how to navigate through the noise and the people! Once you find your crew, it’s a wonderful place to be. Recruitment is also painfully slow! It’s not a reflection of you. It’s just process and small internal TA teams who are overloaded with roles to fill.

Looks good outside but brutal inside

      Pros

Travel benefit, medical benefit. Colleagues generally nice.

      Cons

The company focuses more opportunities to expats at its HQ than to hire local employees here. Majority of the roles can be filled through local hiring in SG. In terms of their core values, which emphasize inclusion and honesty, unfortunately do not practice what they preach. I have seen many of my fellow colleagues who have made redundant. Some are talented and good people. In fact when they open up a new roles, the roles are somehow similar in nature with the role made redundant vs the new role. There are too many old senior people there especially the management. They are not open and do not like to drive change.
