      Cons

Big struggle to work with the team at T&P. Not nice, lots of gossip and hot and cold treatment from management. They have double standards about what they want and dont communicate about what they want and prefer to be clique-y about it.

      Pros

Best thing are your flight attendant colleagues, they are amazing and make you feel like family. It’s a fun job, perk of staff travel - but very hard to get a seat and if you do it’s a middle economy seat.

      Cons

We are paid below minimum wage and somehow it’s legal because we signed an EBA. The EBA was signed with the company threatening us if we didn’t. Flight attendants working in economy and/or business class earn $32.51 flat rate per hour (this is after Qantas was forced to increase us because it was so far under minimum wage, so our increased rate is now $32.51 per hour). This includes working any time of the day, over night, weekends, public holidays (another thing they force us to work public holidays even after the law changed that a workplace can’t force you, they have told us we do have to work no matter what and we do not have a choice) and we do not receive leave loading. If you question why we don’t get penalties for any of this they respond it’s included in the $32.51 per hour we receive 🤪 being full time you have to be available to work any day / any time / 24/7 / 365 days a year but we only get paid $32.51 per hour x 30 hours per week and they say this is full time. I questioned why we’re not getting $32.51 per hour x 38 hours which is what I thought full time was and they said because that’s in the eba we signed 🤪 Flight attendants live in poverty and then onboard we get slammed by customers because they pay so much money and our product isn’t premium anymore. You feel like telling them, mate we earn below minimum wage, go complain to the big bosses literally being paid millions…. But of course we would lose our job, so instead we apologise and try to make them feel better, even though we know we’re about to go to go lock ourselves in a hotel room and eat two minute noodles on our slip.

      Pros

One of the best reasons to work at Qantas is the flexibility it provides to its employees. This includes flexible working hours and options for remote work, which support a healthy work-life balance. Additionally, Qantas offers a supportive and inclusive work environment and excellent travel benefits,

      Cons

Despite its many strengths, Qantas does have some areas that could be improved. The salary range can be less competitive compared to industry standards, which may affect motivation and retention. Additionally, there seems to be a lack of opportunities for upward mobility or professional growth within certain departments, which can limit career development for ambitious professionals."

You have to learn how to navigate through the noise

      Product owner
      Current employee
      Sydney

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Pros: Amazing brand you would be proud as punch to work for! The staff travel perks are definitely a bonus and seem to get seen as a “salary” component given their base salaries are lower than industry for tech and product roles. You get to work on some amazing truly relevant product deliverables that really delight the customer and their experience!

      Cons

I found it incredibly toxic in my first 2 months there! Almost wanted to jump ship. As they really allow toxic culture to survive and have a place there. Caveat: I found it related to people who had been at Qantas for 30+ years and who were more disgruntled with the newcomers with different skillset and agile experiences. Some of the team members who have been there a longer time have an incredible amount of sme knowledge but not necessarily up to do skillset to align with industry. But this causes a divide within the org especially in product teams if existing team members don’t necessarily see agile experience and external experience as value! You just have to figure out how to navigate through the noise and the people! Once you find your crew, it’s a wonderful place to be. Recruitment is also painfully slow! It’s not a reflection of you. It’s just process and small internal TA teams who are overloaded with roles to fill.
