What is the hiring process like at Shipt?

      Shipt reviews

      Employment

      Delivery driver
      Current contractor
      McKinney, TX
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

I’ve been on the waitlist in McKinney Texas for 3-5 months but there’s positions currently open

      Cons

The hiring process appears to need work

      Pick your own schedule

      Delivery personnel
      Former freelancer
      Des Moines, IA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

You get to pick your own deliveries that you wish to shop and therefore your schedule is flexible. You get paid quickly and the process is simple and straightforward. The app is great too.

      Cons

This is mainly only for Target deliveries although the last time I did this Hy-Vee was an option. You rely on 5 star reviews from shoppers to be able to see more assignments. I would do this as supplemental income but not as a replacement for your 9 to 5

No humans, just algorithm based judgement

      Personal shopper
      Former contractor
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

They make it easy to schedule your hours & the app functions better than most gig apps.

      Cons

They're inflexible, be careful about dropping orders early on because if you drop below 90% completion they will automatically deactivate you. The appeal process is automatic, no human sees it, and the deactivations are permanent. You'll get a warning email, but if your area isn't busy enough to do enough orders to raise the percentage before the deadline then there is nothing you can do and the algorithm doesn't have he ability to care. After deactivation you'll keep receiving kudos from the app and tips from customers as they're sent in after the fact, so you'll keep getting notifications that say "your doing a great job!" "your on time bonus is on the way!" "you have more top ratings!" etc knowing that they've already put a permanent block on you via your SSN so you never have the chance to even try again. Honestly I don't know that I would ever recommend trying Shipt solely on the basis that the termination system doesn't actually give anyone the chance to fix any mistakes they make early on, allowing that kind of snap judgement without a human involved while under 100 orders is frankly bizarre.

      Flexibility

      Personal shopper
      Former contractor
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Shipt provides shoppers with the flexibility to work when you want for how long you want. If you want to work more, you can make more money.

      Cons

Overtime, Shipt hired more people and some preferred shoppers’ orders were given to the new shoppers to get their foot in the door. It was hard to make ends meet just off of Shipt shopping.
