Pros
Love my team mates, providers (in my area) and patients. Learned a lot
Cons
Very low pay when national, state, and local averages are considered. Parking is ridiculous (having to pay hundreds of dollars to do park and ride or, if seniority allows, to park in decks. Heavy workload with little to no compensation. Not much benefit of staying except to be vested (if you can make it that amount of time). Often, middle management has their hands tied when it comes to advocating for their staff in regard to hours, pay, treatment and benefits. People are getting run into the ground. Upper management only seems to care about how much money can be made for the hospital..not about how to retain good staff that the have already. Many good nursing staff, tech staff and APPs have left during the few years I have been here.
Big discrepancy between ideals of care and continuity of care with some providers. Tumultuous inner workings/politics tied to lack of competent care of patients (a lot of times having to do with egos and not wanting to take patients into service due to how it will make them (providers) look). I was never concerned about that with the providers that I worked closest with but definitely observed the aforementioned countless times. Many things that have been ethically concerning/bordering on negligence.
