      Former employee
      Chapel Hill, NC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Recognizable brand and apparently the general public believes this is a place to get quality care.

      Cons

Micromanagement and retaliation is rampant in leadership unless you're on the favorites list. Managers don't have adequate training or education to be in a position of leading people. Most have been given that title because of who they're friends with. Managers and the director are often not on site or claim to be working remotely. Even the education coordinator 'works remotely' most of the time. Staffing is terrible and more is constantly expected of short-staff to prove that the department is 'efficient and productive'. Pay is average but never compensates for advanced education, licensure, skills or experience. This place is abusive and ridiculous. State benefits at UNCH have become no better than any other hospital so there really isn't much incentive to be a new hire here. This place is awful. Avoid working here.

      Business Outlook

      Pros

      Cons

Pay could be better. Low pay for MFM specialty.

      Would not advise

      Registered nurse
      Current employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business Outlook

      Pros

Love my team mates, providers (in my area) and patients. Learned a lot

      Cons

Very low pay when national, state, and local averages are considered. Parking is ridiculous (having to pay hundreds of dollars to do park and ride or, if seniority allows, to park in decks. Heavy workload with little to no compensation. Not much benefit of staying except to be vested (if you can make it that amount of time). Often, middle management has their hands tied when it comes to advocating for their staff in regard to hours, pay, treatment and benefits. People are getting run into the ground. Upper management only seems to care about how much money can be made for the hospital..not about how to retain good staff that the have already. Many good nursing staff, tech staff and APPs have left during the few years I have been here. Big discrepancy between ideals of care and continuity of care with some providers. Tumultuous inner workings/politics tied to lack of competent care of patients (a lot of times having to do with egos and not wanting to take patients into service due to how it will make them (providers) look). I was never concerned about that with the providers that I worked closest with but definitely observed the aforementioned countless times. Many things that have been ethically concerning/bordering on negligence.
