Fast paced environment (which is actually a "pro" for me, but not for everyone).

As corny as it sounds I love my job and love Working at Vertex. The benefits are great and culture is exceptional.

Still going through some growing pains as we are growing so quickly but minor in the grand scheme of things and systems are in place to improve these things.

Much of the team is kind and professional. The company provides many quality of life benefits such as coffee, snacks, drinks, and good facilities. The pay is relatively good for the industry.

Contractors are not treated well. They are segregated from the rest of the employees within the offices. You will be treated like an outcast by the majority of the team. There appears to be quite a bit of nepotism and hiring based on personal relationships. Quite a lot of micromanagement and general mistreatment.

Vertex as a whole is an amazing company to work for. Very few companies foster the work environment that they are trying to do and the benefits are what makes retain the talent

The engineering team is led by a toxic personality, who is also led by another toxic personality, so they only like what they want to hear

Great product portfolio in CF, patient stories and journeys are touching, great benefits.

Nitpicky management team, vague expectations, fast paced but clunky. Many GPS ops can get overwhelmed as there is a culture of the case support specialists just targeting their daily work frustrations towards non direct managers, and top level leadership tends to not support the operations team.

Great work culture, great benefits, great workspace and good comp.

If you're coming from a mid sized organization, then this is very big for you.

Other Individual contributors tend to be very nice people but overall highly limited pros.

I would strongly not recommend Vertex Pharmaceuticals to other contractors seeking employment. Quality control operations management (specifically through PPD) at Vertex LC1 site promoted a culture of overwork, blame, and phycological manipulation. Contractors, including myself, were regularly used as scapegoats, experienced a targeted campaign of public humiliation and gaslighting leading to a psychologically unsafe work environment. Gossip and screaming were regularly utilized by QC Ops management as fear tactics while politics, not science, dominated group meetings. There was no path to FTE, leading to contractors being given 3rd class treatment without basic benefits, no viable health insurance, and not a single day of PTO.
