I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at ALM in Feb 2023
Interview
I had a lovely experience and thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the executive editor, who is based in the US. First interview with editor, then a second with the editor-in-chief and a HK director. Writing test came last. All interviews were virtual. They did not ask about my current salary, but my expectations. The offered salary was low (below market rate) and took weeks. I countered and weeks later, again, I was told they could not budge.

Question 1
What are the latest legislation changes in China? What will you focus on once you get the role?
Lengthy and several steps, but very communicative. Make sure to prepare for tests, several and quite intricate. Very niche job, and they do not reveal salary until the very last step.
The process took about 8 weeks, included two writing tests and 3 phone interviews. It seemed rather promising. They contacted my references, who in turn told me they gave a good reference for my work. It has been 3 weeks since they called references and I haven’t heard back. I even reached out to someone in HR but wasn’t even given a courtesy email that they will be moving on in the process. I devoted at least 20 hours of my time to this process and am very disappointed. I am lucky to have a job currently that I very much like, but it would be unfortunate should they string someone along who was in a more desperate situation than myself.
