      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at AMD (Austin, TX) in Mar 2018

      Interview

Standard phone screen first, followed up with about half a day of interviews. This was for a firmware engineering position for a SOC type of architecture. The questions on site is mostly technical and focused a lot on how you would solve a particular problem. I find it really refreshing because a lot of interviews tends to focus on "do you know what this volatile keyword do?" which is useful but doesn't really gauge a candidate's capability. They focused far more on problem solving skills, asking questions and debug scenarios on things you have not done before, on how you solved prior difficult situations at your previous experience, etc. Be prepared to think outside of the box. I also find that the people who did the interview are very sharp and smart engineers and that is a major plus in the decision process. It was a really good and engaging process but you should definitely be prepared to be challenged.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

One of the interview questions was to give a real-life debug scenario on a processor/platform that I have not worked on before. I find the question to be challenging and actually really enjoyed the process of going through the debug. I would rate it as a hard question but overall a really great experience.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at AMD (Bengaluru) in Apr 2024

      Interview

I went through 4 rounds, all of which were technical and included elimination after each round. Here's how you can prepare: Preparation Tips: Have a strong understanding of your current job profile and responsibilities. Gain hands-on experience with a complete testbench, whether for IP or SoC. Expertise in both is a big advantage. Revisit the basics, as these might be overlooked over time. Review SystemVerilog and UVM thoroughly. Dive into advanced topics, such as UVM RAL (Register Abstraction Layer). Scripting knowledge is a valuable add-on, so brush up on it if possible.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Write a testplan and testbench to verify an arbitor. Write a testplan to verify a SOC with minimum blocks integration . Setup SOC environment . Explain RAL and how it is used in SOC verification. Usage of RAL for Register Verification . Explain how

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at AMD (Austin, TX) in Sep 2020

      Interview

Brief (~30 min) interview with the hiring manager to understand the position at AMD and also discuss my work background. Follow up interview with the hiring manager and members of the technical team with more in-depth technical questions, etc. that lasted ~75 mins. I would recommend doing some prep work for the technical interview (review of specs, etc). Overall, the questions were very reasonable and fair.
