I applied online. I interviewed at Active Commerce in May 2014
Interview
Applied for position with resume and cover letter. Spoke with their recruitment officer about my background 15 years with channels, the markets I served, sales skills, success etc. Since I had not specifically worked in the space that Active Commerce targets I made it clear I felt that it did not matter to me as I was successful in many industries, but that it was perfectly understandable if the hiring manager wanted someone who came right out of the ad/digital marketing space. I was assured that my message would get through.
I was called back by the recruitment officer two days later to schedule a telephone call with the hiring manager for the following week.
The Hiring manager called me from his car while he was driving. He may have looked at my resume but he did not have it with him and had no idea who I was or what my background was.
He immediately asked me a canned question. Explain your success in your last job. I provided what was a major success that increased market share and led to a second and third opportunity that I was proud of.
He seemed very puzzled because the success was with an end user/ a channel and in a market that he was unfamiliar with. This obviously turned him off as he quickly tried to end the call by jumping to ask me If I had any questions. So I asked first if he had any more questions which he said no, and then how he felt about what I just told him. He mumbled that he didn't understand why my contact was given to him.
What a loser and time waster. The hiring hiring manager was totally unprepared, The recruiting manager and hiring manager failed to communicate - and on top of this the hiring manager has no idea who or what was on the other end of the call. In my opinion he missed out on learning if I could have contributed and he clearly had very little people and sales probing skills of his own.
I basically ended the call because I felt that he was either incompetent or so totally overworked that he couldn't handle the multi tasking.
