Responded to a LinkedIn post since it sounded like an interesting job and was excited to hear back for an interview. We had one interview where we discussed the job, my interests, what drew me to the organization, some duties that would be required, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary and it sounded like an interesting opportunity.
I thought there was something positive since I ended up hitting on a possible subject area (without having much knowledge prior to this convo) and I had specific experience that interested the interviewer. However, I might not hear back for several months because it was summer (vacations, changing priorities, etc.).
So summer came and went and so I decided to check in after Labor Day (which is not necessarily the end of summer but thought this would be a reasonable criteria as such. Several days went and I didn't hear back, so I assumed this was either a ghosting or they hadn't hired.
Turns out the hiring process had been completed the previous week. I understand there's not always any way to know, that sometimes the process can be delayed for reasons, etc. but it has become tiring to have to be the one to follow-up, especially as I had been eliminated early (this was the only interview I had and it was supposed to be a multi-round process with other people, etc.). I also don't know if the interviewer telling me this would take several months was either a genuine thing or a way of letting me know that it wasn't going forward (I've been told similar for other jobs and it's a rejection in disguise.)
I would have gone forward if there was mutual interest but stuff like this was probably for the best. If transparency/being up to date is that difficult or tedious, then I'm not sure what it'd be like to work here.
