      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Aha! (Minneapolis, MN) in Sep 2017

      Interview

Everything moved quickly! I spoke with three different Aha! employees within seven days. The process was incredibly organized. Interviews were held over video-calls and were conversational, friendly, and informative. I knew exactly what to expect each step of the way. The three different Aha! employees I spoke with challenged me with tough questions but also reminded me (without saying it) to stay comfortable and just be myself. It was apparent they were not merely looking at my resume, but wanted to fully understand my story and unpack the values I stood for and how I operated. They truly wanted to know if I would fit with the unique culture (100% distributed, no sales people, no VC funding, etc.). Some of the interview questions were things I had not thought deeply about in years. In retrospect, the interviews were one of the most interesting conversations I had had about myself, building products, and startup culture I have had in a long time.

      Interview

I noticed pretty early on that in company-wide pictures on their website most of the employees presented as white, and as far as I know their leadership team is all white. During a late stage interview with a leader at the company I asked "How do you think of diversity and inclusion at Aha?" The interviewer seemed confused by what I was asking and why I would be asking that. They replied that, in terms of inclusion, everyone has the same level of access to software/information. In terms of diversity, they hire the best candidates for the job. If you care about D&I (as you should!), be aware.

Thanks for the feedback. There are many aspects of Aha! that are quite diverse and others that are not. For example, more of our senior leaders are women than men. But the number of Black, LatinX, and Indigenous people in the company is low. We have spent a considerable amount of time educating ourselves as many individuals and people have. We are now working harder to do our part to create greater social justice and equal opportunity. You may be interested in a major initiative that we announced with specific actions (including a new Fellowship program) through Aha! Cares to do our part. You can read about it here: https://www.aha.io/blog/aha-launches-new-programs-to-support-social-justice Please note that we have not made any job offers to PMMs recently that were turned down. You might have clicked the wrong button in your review. We wish you the best and hope you find the right role and environment for you.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Aha! (Austin, TX) in Jan 2018

      Interview

The interview process consisted of speaking with four different people over the course of a couple of weeks. All interviews were conducted via video meeting, so a good internet connection and a quiet space are necessary. The people I spoke to were very organized and everyone picked up where the last interviewer left off. I thankfully didn't have to repeat answers to the same questions multiple times. The conversation was informational and in addition to sharing details about my past work experience, I learned about the people and the culture at Aha! The entire interview process moved very quickly. From the first phone call to the time the offer was made was about two weeks with six video calls. I felt like Aha! and the people interviewing me made me a priority.
