I responded to an ad they posted on Craigslist. When I had the phone interview, it was really telling. The Director stated they had work but it was NOT full-time. When I questioned why that was, Director stated that he needed to keep his younger staff employed. Engineers with experience are NOT valued there apparently as the position was going to last for only 6 months. This means that temporary experienced engineers are used to train the less experienced staff. The Director lies about things that he has evidence that supports something completely otherwise, like his statement that he always had work.
In a previous encounter, the Director and his structural engineering guru asked me how to design one of the transit stations for free. The Director and his guru didn't know anything about structural engineering materials, lateral analysis, or lateral systems in buildings. They specified plywood shear walls for a transit station building that was taller than was allowable by California Building Code - a big no-no. They never offered to pay me for my time. When I followed up with them, they had stated the work never materialized even though news headlines stated otherwise.
