The interview started nicely with HR asking all of the standard questions, nothing out of the ordinary. The hiring manager was 15 minutes late and I had to redo the beginning of the interview so that he could catch up. All of the standard technical questions were asked and things were going well at first.
Then the red flags started to come up. I was told that the group I would be working in was led by a manager that likes to yell at people but that it was ok because I am allowed to yell back. Secondly, I was asked repeatedly if I would be ok working in this group since it had a lot of [nationality redacted] and [nationality redacted] working there. I see that there are only two ways to take this type of question. If I came off as being a bigot then why would they want to hire me? Why even bring this question up? Or second, the hiring manager has a problem with it and thinks I would too. I was insulted that such a question would even be asked. I want to work with qualified people, and I don't care where they come from.
