I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at BBC (Newcastle upon Tyne, England) in Aug 2023
Interview
The interview process mainly has one stage: a technical assessment centre which takes about 3 hours. The first half is a coding test where you have to implement a solution to a coding problem within an existing codebase. You get to chose the language beforehand and have to set your IDE + code setup prior to the interview. Two interviewers are there to guide you through your implementation. The second half is a technical interview with around 10 questions, all around previous experiences and projects, and how you approach problems and solve them. The interviewers for both Halves were competent and friendly, and it made for a comfortable atmosphere. From my experience and possibly in my specific case, the problem was with the recruiter and what happened after the assessment centre. I didn't hear back within the timeframe, I had been told at the assessment centre. In general, it was near impossible to get in touch with the recruiter. They didn't return calls for multiple days, and they never actually told me which of the jobs I had applied for, they wanted to offer me prior to a chat with the hiring manager. This chat was frankly a waste of time for both sides, as it turned out the job in question was neither of the ones I had applied for (which the hiring manger did not seem to be aware of either). It took another chat with a manager on a different team, which I requested, to get the clarity that the role did not match either of the ones I had applied for. In summary, the process drew out for multiple weeks, and I invested quite a bit of time to take part in the assessment centre and chasing the recruiter, all for a role I hadn't applied for and didn't meet any of my criteria which I could have told them immediately if I had been given the information.

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at BBC in Sep 2023
Interview
Two stages. First is a coding interview where you collaboratively build an API. Second was an hour and a half with a system design component at the beginning followed by answering a pre-defined list of questions that the interviewers go through. The interviewers themselves were polite, respectful and knowledgeable. Unfortunately 8 weeks later, I didn’t heard back with feedback let alone any decision - even after multiple follow up emails. It’s left a remarkably bad taste in my mouth, especially after taking a day of annual leave to complete the second interview. Do better.
