      Solutions Architect Interview

      Dec 15, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Boston Consulting Group (Boston, MA)

      Interview

HR interview, followed by team members and hiring manager The solutions architect interview was the silliest interview I have ever attended. It looked like the company is wrongly calling a software programmer position as a solution architect position, because there were simply no design questions asked. there was nothing about architecture, previous projects in which you have applied these concepts etc. The questions were more like what you would ask a fresh graduate from college about basics of programming . As soon as the interviewer started this line of questioning, I realized this was not the position I wanted. After 12 years of progressively higher responsibilities, I can remember answering these kinds of questions only when I first started my career as a software developer. Since I already had an offer from another company for a similar role , I withdrew from the process, but feel compelled to post this review because I am disappointed in the experience, and I had expected a higher standard from BCG. My takeaway is , if you are interviewing for the management consulting roles, which is what BCG is famous for, then you shouldn't have a problem, but if you are interviewing for the technical roles(called knowledge and analytics group), their standard is low, and the line of questioning mirrors what you would expect from outsourcing companies from other countries.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Boston Consulting Group

      Interview

Interviewed for a technical position for which I have vast experience, which included a long stint in a large consulting company. In less than 10 minutes the lady decided my skills weren't aligned and dumped me. I later learned that the same was happening with colleagues regarded as the best in the region.

Tell me your consulting experience. How do you keep yourself updated? Have you worked with X?

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Boston Consulting Group (Boston, MA) in Jan 2018

      Interview

I guess this is a mismatch of expectations. The interview had nothing to do with solution architecture, but more about low level features of languages such as JavaScript, Java etc. To be honest, I think the role they are looking for is senior programmer/developer. There were no questions on the scope, big picture, customer experience etc, but more about how do you code using a particular technology. My understanding is that architecture is about the solution, and although you do need to know about different technologies, the focus is not on the technology, but how effectively do you solve the problem. I think they are horribly confused about the type of role they are hiring for. The technical group at BCG has been disappointing to me.
