I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at BuildOps
Interview
The director reached out directly to me on LinkedIn about a position at BuildOps. After talking to them, they ghosted me without any response or update. Avoid this company at all cost as they don’t treat you with respect. They just want to waste your time.
I applied through other source. I interviewed at BuildOps
Interview
Call with recruiter -> Cosing challenge -> 4 in person interviews. The in person interviews were streamlined and fast, about 30m each. Have coffee beforehand, but the nice thing is you go through them pretty fast. That said, don’t rush things - just stay focused on the task at hand.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Leetcode easy-medium, system design, and talking through product requirements.
This experience has been disappointing and one of the worst interview experiences I have had for several reasons:
* The recruiter was rude and strictly followed a script that lacked important context about the role, company, or teams involved.
* No effort was made to provide a clear understanding of the company or the position, which left me with no insight into what the role entailed or what teams are currently hiring.
* The recruiter did not discuss anything about the company. The lack of detail about the company’s teams or operations was a significant omission in the conversation.
* Despite explaining that commuting was not an issue, the recruiter overly focused on location, which was a barrier to continuing the interview process. This was concerning, as I am not far from the office and had already expressed my flexibility.
* The recruiter briefly mentioned compensation but did so rudely and inflexibly. While I understand that certain commitments need to be made, the conversation felt rushed, with no room for negotiation or discussion of potential salary bands based on seniority.
* The recruiter misled me, stating they would follow up, but never did. If the location was truly a deciding factor, I would have preferred straightforward feedback instead of being promised a follow-up that never came.
* Overall, the experience gave me a negative impression of the company culture. The recruiter's approach and lack of transparency and communication make me hesitant to continue any process with this company.
This type of experience, particularly from a recruiter, speaks volumes about the company's culture.

Where are you located? Are you going to commute to the office? Answer the years of experience after I mention the technology: A, B, C ...
We’re sorry to hear about your experience. This isn’t the kind of interaction we want anyone to have with BuildOps — and it’s certainly not the culture we’re proud of.
The recruiter you interacted with is no longer with the company. That said, your feedback is important to us, and we want to make sure experiences like this don’t happen again. If you’re open to it, we’d appreciate the chance to hear more from you directly. Please reach out to us at help@buildops.com — we’d love to listen and learn.
Thank you again for taking the time to share this with us.
