Submitted application, then asked to record the answer to a question on video.
There was no conversation just a question about why I would like to work for them, with little information on their website to drive that wuestion. They would do well to remember that the interview process is two way, and so should those conversations be.
In addition, the use of a one sided video question is ageist, as it both assumes a level of comfort with video, access and familiarity with video as a tool. In addition this role is not one that would front the company and require a certain presentation. A video is also an invasion of privacy....the only reasonable place to do is at home because of noise which means you are seeing into my home unnecessarily. What are doing with the videos? Do you destroy them or keep them somewhere where they could compromised and used as material to be doctored and used recruotment purposes?
Why ageist? Because it allows the company to weed out any candidates as older without a conversation.
The email I received further stated that i was rejected only based on culture.
Pick up the phone and talk to people. It is a matter of respect and a mutual process. Dont rely so much on technology to recruit people. People are not technology.
Finally, if you want a video, disclose it and make it part of the application process, so that I know you wont consider me due to age upfront.
