I was contacted very quickly for a position I applied for with Buzzfeed. The next week I went in for an interview, met with the team I'd be working immediately with, and took a short test related to the position. A few days later they asked me to come back to meet with the editorial director. That interview also went well, and I met with HR that day as well. At that point I thought I'd be in line for getting the position, since I was clearly one of their shortlisted individuals. I sent my thank you notes each time - got no replies to any of them, from anyone... And I followed up. The first time i followed up they told me the ed director was on vaca, so I should follow up again next week, I gave them another week, still no decision... the last time I followed up, the girl who would have been my boss told me "due to the competitive nature, they could not offer me the position." Basically, they did not want to match the salary I was getting from my previous job... That is the only! reason I can think of why I didn't get the position, everything else seemed to be fine. But from my research the pay is very low, while they provide benefits, I still don't think the compensation is worthy in comparison to also media companies. Yes, they are a young company but they are also one of the leading news/media sites, and growing stronger every year. During the interview they asked many questions about the kinds of pop culture/ music/ entertainment I consume - if you ask me they're non-conformists who try so hard to be different, but still end up closing off people who aren't like them. Oh, and everyone there is a 20something or early 30something, my boss would have been the same age as me (24/25). I was honestly annoyed, they wasted my time, and had no regard for it... A simply you didn't get the job in an email takes a few seconds...
