I applied online. I interviewed at Cachet Estate Homes (Mississauga, ON)
Interview
The interview was facilitated through Spark Hire, utilizing a "One-way video interview" format. This method was entirely new to me and proved to be quite awkward. Questions were presented sequentially on the screen, allowing only a brief period for consideration before verbalizing responses within a set timeframe.
I encountered challenges during the interview process, particularly in maintaining engagement and delivering responses effectively while feeling constrained by the countdown timer. The experience of conversing with a screen, devoid of immediate interaction, posed a notable difficulty. Regrettably, the overall impression left by this impersonal encounter was less than favorable, casting a shadow on the interview process.
Interviews are inherently a two-way human interaction. The absence of face-to-face engagement in video interviews is impersonal and constraining. Unlike in-person interactions, video interviews on platforms often lack the subtle nuances that facilitate meaningful communication. Given that applicants essentially perform during these interviews, providing the script beforehand would afford them the opportunity to rehearse and present their best selves during the interview.
