    Business Intelligence Analyst Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Pittsburgh, PA
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Pittsburgh, PA) in June 2017.

    Interview

I had two phone interviews and one in person panel interview. The first phone interview was with a member of the HR team. We had a great conversation and discussed the position in detail and what drew me to the role. My second interview was with the hiring manager and we discussed my previous experiences and my technical experience. I felt very at ease; again, the interview felt more like a conversation. The panel interview gave me an opportunity to meet with team members face-to-face and gain a better understanding of the role and the type of projects I would undertake in the position. Instead of meeting with each panel member at the same time, they interviews were broken into smaller groups which also helped make it feel less formal

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Pittsburgh, PA) in April 2017.

    Interview

The interview process first started with a phone interview with the hr manager then the following week I had a phone interview with the department managers. Then I was scheduled to have an in person interview in Pittsburgh. I ended up not filling through with the last interview due to unforeseen circumstances. Very great communication with the HR staff. I really think it would have been a great company to work for.

    Process Engineer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Luttrell, TN
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Luttrell, TN) in April 2016.

    Interview

HR manager based in Birmingham, AL was unorganized at best. The online assessments are a waste of time. I normally would never consider working for a company that forces applicants to take such assessments. Three phone calls and emails with her led to an unintelligible phone interview with the corporate engineer manager who didn't know what duties the job would have. A local plant interview in Luttrell, TN was the worst experience--the plant didn't seem to know I was coming for an interview. The plant locals obviously had a favorite candidate already picked as I was in and out the door in less than 20 minutes. Never received a follow up from local or corporate HR. A follow up email I sent weeks later was returned with a curt "We went with someone else.". How classy.

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Carmeuse (Detroit, MI) in February 2016.

    Interview

Very open and conversational. They used the personality quiz that you take during the application process to suit the interview to you. The very open problem was they don't get very many applicants so generally you are one of two candidates to fill a role that has been open for a year.

    Interview

Phone and in-person interview in Pittsburgh. Met with MIS director and very limited staff. We met for about 2 hours, and then met with the business people I would be supporting. Several of them were from Cleveland, so we got along well. They identified multiple issues that were not getting fixed, so they prepared me for the eventual job I was applying for.

    Engineering Interview

    Anonymous Interview Candidate
    Declined Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Carmeuse in June 2010.

    Interview

I applied online, and nearly a month later I got a call from HR. After a phone call with HR, I had a phone call with the person who would be my supervisor. After that I was invited to travel to Pittsburgh for a face to face interview with HR and who would be my supervisor. HR representative was very unorganized and kept having to leave the room to get more documents for me. The mining engineering department that I was interviewing with is fairly new, and very unorganized and works very old school. They don't use real mining software because someone choose AutoCAD, but no one can use it, not even the guy who choose to go with AutocCAD. There was no clear job description at the time of the interview, and they were unsure of the future the candidate would have. They admit they are growing the department to catch up on forgotten work, but are not willing to get organized and grow properly.

Had things been better organized and clearer objectives, I would have chosen to work for Carmeuse. Everyone I met was very nice and professional. Its a good business to be in, hence why they can do so good while being so poorly organized. Just imagine how profitable they could be if they got their act together.

    Interview Questions

    • Describe a situation where ou had a different opinion on how something should be done, where your opinion was taken over others.   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

The job description kept changing. Was told I could live near the mine site, then told I had to live in Pittsburgh and travel 50-70% of the time.
