Code District interview questions

The interview process consisted of four stages and was structured to evaluate both technical skills and communication. The first round was an HR screening call that included a personal introduction, discussion about past experience, and basic questions related to the technology stack. The second stage was a two-hour onsite technical test conducted using Google Forms. The assessment included multiple-choice questions, short answer questions, and coding problems that had to be written directly in a text field. The topics covered OOP, React, Node.js, MongoDB, JavaScript fundamentals, basic problem-solving, and analytical or puzzle-type questions. The overall difficulty level of the test was easy to moderate. After clearing the assessment, the third round was a one-hour online technical interview with a Senior Software Engineer. This round focused on concepts related to JavaScript, including output-based questions, along with OOP, React, Node.js, Next.js, NestJS, MongoDB, and SQL. Some questions related to AWS were also asked, along with general problem-solving discussions. The final stage was a one-hour onsite interview with an Engineering Manager. This round covered similar topics related to React and Node.js, but had a stronger focus on SQL instead of MongoDB. AWS-related questions, puzzles, and general discussion were included as well. Communication skills were an important part of this round, so being clear and confident while explaining answers was helpful.

I recently interviewed with Code District, and I’d like to share my experience. The interviewer they assigned had around 3 years of experience — the same as mine. While that isn’t necessarily a problem, it did feel unusual since we were essentially on the same level. The questions throughout the session were heavily focused on databases. While I do have DB knowledge, my primary expertise is in frontend development. The interviewer, being a backend developer, seemed to expect backend-style solutions from me, which felt mismatched with the role I applied for. Another point was the duration — the interview lasted 38 minutes. Typically, if a candidate doesn’t align with expectations, it’s clear within the first 10–15 minutes. Extending the interview unnecessarily wastes both sides’ time. Overall, I found the process disappointing. The mismatch between the role and the questions asked, along with the unnecessarily long duration, made this one of the less professional interviews I’ve attended.
