I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cray in Jan 2011
Interview
I got my resume to someone within Cray, and soon received a call inviting me for an on-site interview. I initially did 8 individual interviews with three different groups. Each lasted about 30 minutes, with each interviewer very different. There weren't all that many technical questions, there was more of a focus on looking over my resume and determining my interests. I was then invited back for another round of interviews with two of the three original groups. This consisted of 6 individual interviews, each 45 minutes long. These interviews were much the same as the earlier individual interviews, with few technical questions and more personality questions. I was informed that they would be adding on an additional interview at the end of the day, which was to be with a more senior manager. He told me that they would make their decision that day, that they wanted to make me an offer, and that they would inform me within 24 hours about where they wanted to put me. It ultimately took them about 10 days to get back to me, and they did not make me an offer.

Question 1
You have a gold bar that's segmented into 7 pieces (like a chocolate bar). You need to pay someone each day for 7 days, you must pay them the entire gold bar by the end of the week, and you must pay them an equal amount each day. You may only break the bar in two places. How do you do it?
Multiple stage interviews that target logical and debugging skills. Non threatening and kind people that make you want to work there. They were looking for analytical skills as well as communication skills.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Cray in Jan 2019
Interview
Recruiter contacts at first with some basic question about the skillset and then a phone interview with the hiring manager. Finally an onsite interview with more than five rounds. Got the official offer in two weeks after the onsite interview.

Do you have experience working in a complex system?
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Cray in Jan 2017
Interview
The overall review for this company is about their friendly people and supporting atmosphere, but my interview experience with them was quite the opposite.
Applied through job site and soon contacted by company recruiter. The initial talk with recruiter was great, and the phone interview was skipped, I was scheduled directly for the onsite interview.
It was a team interview but for unknown reason one of the interviewer was not friendly from the very beginning. At one time I praised their office setup and location. He replied with something like this is a terrible office... On one question, that individual's knowledge is clearly limited to old ways of how thing was done in terms of software programming and debugging. When I offered solutions based on newer technologies he was adamant about I was wrong. Regardless, I still nailed 99% of the interview questions.
