Went through 6 rounds of interviews with Crunchyroll — HR, Karat, technical, system design, VP, and product — and while I appreciated the opportunity and gave my best throughout, I left the process genuinely disappointed.
As an anime fan, I was excited about the chance to work at Crunchyroll and was vocal throughout about both my passion and the skills I bring. My resume clearly states I have 2 years of experience, while the role asked for 5. Despite this, they moved me through all rounds, only to later say I lacked “exposure.”
To ease the outcome, they mentioned there was only one open role and that things might have been different if there were more roles or mentoring opportunities. I was told I seemed like someone who needs mentorship — which is fair, no one starts perfect. But that realization could’ve easily happened in the first 1–2 rounds, not after six.
It’s frustrating to see companies not being upfront early in the process. Candidates invest serious time and effort — preparing, learning, and engaging sincerely. That deserves respect. I hope Crunchyroll, and companies in general, lead with more clarity and intentionality in the future. Interviewing should be a two-way street — built on transparency and mutual respect.
