I applied online. I interviewed at Cubby Beds in Mar 2026
Interview
The recruiter set clear expectations upfront, and the team delivered. Timelines were kept, follow ups happened when promised, and every person I met took the time to build rapport, explain the role in detail, and set clear expectations. As someone who spent years in talent acquisition, I notice these things, and this team got it right. Ended with an offer, and onboarding was just as solid. HR and my team had a structured onboarding plan that set me up to succeed in my new role since day one.

Question 1
Share a situation where you had a people first approach.
Interview process was meaningful & quality questions were asked. I had been told prior to my interview that they were impressed with my resume. I felt important and confident that this role was meant for me.
I was given the impression that I would continue with more interviews because they shared next steps but only had the one interview and then was rejected from continuing. Felt very deceiving

Question 1
(Not verbatim) Tell us something that you are proud of yourself for?
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and provide feedback to the Cubby team. We’re glad to hear that you found the interview process meaningful and the questions engaging.
We understand how disappointing it can feel to not move forward, especially when there was strong initial interest. We aim to be transparent during our interviews by outlining potential next steps, while also noting that progression depends on how candidates compare across a very competitive and promising applicant pool. In this case, we moved forward with candidates whose experience and skills were the most closely aligned with the specific requirements of the role.
We truly appreciate the time and effort you put into the process and wish you the very best in your continued job search.
I was contacted quickly after applying, which initially seemed like a positive sign. The first interview was with a recruiter, and while I expected a standard screening, it turned out to be surprisingly in-depth with questions that felt more suited to a hiring manager and outside the typical scope of a recruiter.
What stood out most, and has bothered me since, was the request to use AI to "take notes," which in practice meant recording my responses. I was asked if I was okay with it, and like most candidates, I agreed to avoid seeming difficult, but I had immediate concerns about how that transcript would be used or interpreted internally.
When I wasn’t moved forward and saw the role reposted shortly afterward, it became clear that hiring decisions were likely being made based solely on that AI-generated transcript. This kind of process may favor candidates who sound polished in the moment, but it overlooks real expertise, proven outcomes, and long-term potential.
Just a tip, Cubby Beds: in my experience, smooth talkers aren’t usually your top performers; in fact, they’re often among the most disappointing hires.
Ultimately, if a company takes such a shallow approach to hiring, it likely reflects a broader lack of strategic thinking and that’s not a place I’d feel confident investing my time or skills.

Question 1
How would you adapt content to effectively engage Cubby Beds' different target audiences?
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about our hiring process. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with you and hear your perspective.
We use an AI notetaker in interviews to capture details accurately and allow our recruiters to be more present in the conversation. This tool records only with the candidate’s consent, and we are more than happy not to utilize it when requested. The notes are reviewed solely to ensure we evaluate qualifications consistently and fairly. Decisions are never made based solely on AI-generated transcripts — our recruiters and hiring managers carefully consider experience, skills, and alignment with the role.
Thank you again for the time you spent exploring an opportunity at Cubby Beds. We wish you the best in your job search.
