      Accommodation Manager Interview

      Sep 22, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Brighton, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at EF (Education First) (Brighton, England) in Sep 2023

      Interview

I was approached by a recruitment lead who suggested the role would be a good fit for me, so I applied. My first interview was with the School Director and my potential line manager. The interview was conversational and felt very relaxed. None of the questions were challenging and I was never asked a competency question, which alarmed me slightly as the role was managerial. During that interview, I was told they were really happy with my answers and they wanted me to progress to the next stage - another interview with a different colleague. A few days later, I had another interview following similar lines to the first one. Again, I was confused by the lack of example-based questions so I found myself trying to include examples where I could, to demonstrate my competency. I felt the interview was positive and I was confident in the outcome. I was given a deadline of the end of the following week for an outcome. The day arrived and I head nothing. I chased on the Monday and was told none of the interviewers had had the opportunity to calibrate their interviews as they had all been on annual leave...why was I given a deadline they could never have met? Two days later, I got an email saying they had gone with a candidate with more specific experience in the field. I was naturally disappointed and so asked for feedback via email so that I could improve. My email was ignored and nobody has spoken to me since. A really disappointing process that demonstrates significant hiring inadequacies - maybe consider creating a standardised interview structure that includes competency questions. Then they will hire the right candidate and staff turnover will be reduced.
