Was contacted by corporate recruiter via LinkedIn asking if I was open to opportunities and I was. We spoke on the phone and he shared a formal job description via email. The job looked like a great position, the company has a good reputation in the industry. We exchanged emails, I sent a resume and he set up a call with the hiring manager. It took a little time, but unlike my experience with many other recruiters communications were good and open and he was responsive even when I was asking things - not just when he wanted something. I had a very positive discussion with the hiring manager. Important to note - many people/companies will set up interviews as some sort of adversarial gauntlet where they look for reasons to disqualify someone. The feeling I got with the hiring manager as well as subsequent executive discussions was more one of a collaborative search for commonality. I can't overstate how much of a difference that made with me in terms of wanting to work for Electro Rent. Some other companies I talked to were clearly trying to play some sort of "stump the jerk" game and despite some of them looking like good and highly compensated opportunities I passed because I did not like the culture. Electro Rent was different - the feel I got for the culture based on how I was treated during the interview process strengthened rather than diminished my desire to work there.
