      Account Manager Interview

      Apr 28, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Engine in Apr 2024

      Interview

First interview with my recruiter was great - she was super prepared and knowledgeable. Asked me thought-provoking questions and gave me suggestions on what to expect in the next interview and what to prepare to make sure I'm on top of it. My second interview wasn't booked until 8 days after my first one, really dragging out the interview process. At the end of a 45-min second interview (which I thought I crushed), I asked the interviewer if she had any hesitations about moving me forward or any concerns about my candidacy that I could address live on the call with her. As an Account Manager, this is crucial to demonstrate you know how to close and objection handle. I was shut down and told that this is not how they run their process. That I will need to wait until my recruiter reaches out to me, and she will provide me with detailed feedback and next steps. As a leader in sales/AM, I assumed my interviewer would anticipate this and be prepared for the candidate to ask this type of question at the end. Detailed feedback was not received from my recruiter (no feedback was received at all) and I only got a rejection email from a "no-reply" address 3 days later. Annoying and sort of disrespectful, but not the worst thing ever. So it's fine.

      Interview

I don't normally leave reviews but this was one of the worst experiences I've had with a company recently. The Recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and we scheduled a Zoom call so that I could learn more about the role. During the call she fired off a bunch of questions as if she was interviewing me for the role. I told her I don't even know what the role entails, how am I supposed to tailor my answer to your expectations. She kept saying that questions about the role would be answered in the latter half of the call. The entire time her tone was super condescending and it made me feel uncomfortable/disrespected. I tried to gave her some feedback at the end of the call but she just brushed it off with some snarky remark.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

As an account manager you will have to oversee 800-900 accounts, how would you prioritize your day? (nothing was listed in the JD, besides some generic description of an AM they found online)
