The current Controller had been there 30+ years and wanted to retire. They were looking to hire her replacement while she was still there, so she could train her replacement. All of the employees that directly reported to her had been there at least 8 years. The CEO conducted the interview.
The interview was fairly casual, but I was not introduced to any other employees. I was told that they were looking to fill the position fairly quickly and that I was one of the first to be interviewed.
I was very candid in stating that my experience was directly in line with the current job requirements. I did state however, that the lack of a CFO to report to and learn from was a substantial drawback for me. I believe I suggested the hiring of a CFO in addition to (or in place of) the current Controller position.
I was told the next step in the interview process was to meet the founders of the company (husband & wife who are parents of CEO) and tour the facility. Needless to say, I only had one interview.
