I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Epic Games in Sep 2022
Interview
I was contacted by an Epic recruiter on linkedin. After showing interest I had a zoom meeting with the recruiter. The conversation was a pleasant chat where they also explained the interview process.
The next step was a meeting with the hiring managers. This was also a zoom chat between two managers and myself. We spent most of the time going through my experience. At some point they asked me a few design questions around an open source project that I'm working on. It's a plus that they spent the time to actually look at my github project and come up with a few questions.
In the next phase they gave me a relatively easy programming test without a time limit. The algorithms had to be perfect because the answers would run through some automated test suite.
After passing the test they contacted me and told me that the next phase will be some sort of interview by a panel of people. Unfortunately at some point down the line they called it off with the justification that they had second thoughts about the role and now they want a different skillset.
To be honest I wasn't happy with the change of heart. I spent quite some time preparing and also declined a few interesting opportunities in order to focus on this one.

The first round was a video call interview. This was terrible, they canceled the interview 30 minutes before without any reason, I had no idea what happened, they didn’t even send an explanation about this
I applied online. I interviewed at Epic Games in Oct 2025
Interview
The whole process is non-standard and quite unprofessional. I put "very difficult" just because there is not much one can do to prepare for such interviews. The questions were quite easy once you realize what they are looking for. Unlike large companies the recruiter doesn't have much idea about the interview process. The salary is not negotiated until the end of the process. They give you a take-home task which takes a few hours to complete and a panel discussion on that. Before that there is a round of "technical" interview.

Application
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Epic Games (Vancouver, BC)
Interview
screen call on google meet. I was uncomfortable that they used google meet paired with gemini and recorded the interview. It also became apparent that the interviewer had no technical background and was simply recording my answers for review later.
