      Technical Specialist Interview

      Nov 7, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Vancouver, BC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Eventbase (Vancouver, BC)

      Interview

I applied for a developer position, but wasn't told until my first interview that no one actually gets hired directly into a developer role and that i was actually interviewing for a role called a "Technical Specialist". Most mobile developers start out as one and get promoted from there. On average, an employee will stay in this role for 1 year. Throughout the process, I had three 1h interviews and one 1h skill testing take home test. First interview was an hour phone interview. Basic questions about your experience and what you want to do in life. If you pass that round, you get a skill test to do. The skill test is not hard but way longer than could be reasonably finished in the 1h they give you (The recruiter mentioned that none of the applicants finished the test). You will get a mock app and mock database and have to pour through their tables to answer various SQL queries and general knowledge questions. Then you get a second interview where they bring you out to their "hiring fair" events at their office. You get to listen to why it's great to work there on the whole and they call you from the group one at a time to interview with a team member (Be prepared to wait until they call you up). They explained how they hire in waves so there are many spots open. Second round interview was similar to first round, experience questions and explaining the role. Nothing really technical, just more culture fit and very very basic development fundamental questions. Third round interview focused more on explaining the role, but also had the same experience questions, meeting the supervisors and ended in an office tour. Total time put in was 5h over 4 days and got a simple "we have decided to go with someone else". Asked for feedback of any kind from anybody and have not heard a peep since. Well within their rights to not reply, just not very professional.

We always aim to provide an exceptional candidate experience, so we're disappointed to hear your interaction was sub-optimal. We will investigate why you have not yet received feedback from the hiring manager involved. Thank you for investing the time to interview with the Eventbase team, and we would like to wish you well with your job search.
