    Patent Engineer Interview

Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Fenwick & West (San Francisco, CA) in October 2015.

    Interview

Finished up my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, knew I wanted out of high tech. Stopped by F&W booth at my schools career fair.

They asked for some writing samples so I sent them my two most recent publications. A few weeks later I was invited to an onsite interview in SF/Mountain View. A few weeks later this was followed by a dinner with a partner and an associate in a region where they want to open a new office (this part is non-standard). A few weeks after that I was extended an offer.

I believe this process took a bit longer than normal due to logistics of expanding to a new area.

This interview is VERY different than any technical interview you will have. Work on your soft skills and behavioral answers. If you are getting invited for an onsite, they already believe you have the technical chops and are just trying to see if you are a good fit for the company.

    Digital Marketing Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in San Francisco, CA
    No Offer
    Neutral Experience

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Fenwick & West (San Francisco, CA) in April 2016.

    Interview

I had a phone interview with Fenwick & West. I filled out an online form. There isn't 1 aspect of the job that I would not have been qualified to do, and then some. It is something I've done for over 12 years for law firm. But I'm looking for a change since I've had my own company for over 8 years am a public speaker and teach digital marketing to law firms. I think I know where the interview went "south" because I never heard back. Because I have my own company she called me a "consultant" and I think that I heard a tone in her voice that marked me off the list at that point.

    Legal Secretary Interview

Anonymous Employee in San Francisco, CA
    Accepted Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Fenwick & West (San Francisco, CA) in February 2014.

    Interview

The process included a casual 30 minute phone interview with management discussing my experience and qualifications. Later that same day, we scheduled an interview on site. Several people were invited to speak with me, with about 3 people in the room at the same time. I came back for a 20 minute third interview with a partner. The interviews were much more casual than I've experienced at other firms, and they seemed genuinely more interested in my personality than testing whether I could answer difficult questions or riddles. I heard back the next day with an offer.
