      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Flexport (Amsterdam) in Jan 2018

      Interview

There were basically 2 parts to the application process. The first part was a phone interview with a recruiter, and the second part were 4 1:1 interviews with various levels of employees. The recruiter seemed to have a busy schedule and was hard to get in touch with. After a week the recruiter was able to schedule a 30 minute phone call. The talk was mostly to get to know each other, a little bit of insights on Flexport, and a little bit of details about myself. Recruiter was friendly and it was a pleasant talk. The conversation ended with a positive note, and the recruiter would email me with more details on how to move forward with the application. After a week I still didn't get a message, so emailed the recruiter to ask about how to move forward. Received a short email mentioning it was a busy period and I could use the link below to schedule my 1:1 interviews. The interview session took about 2.5 hours. Had 4 different interviews starting off with employees who were currently in the role I applied for. Pleasant introductory conversation which gave me more insights in the day-to-day challenges of this role. Second interview was with a manager which gave me a case to solve. There is no right or wrong, but the way you interpret and solve the case gives them more insights in how to approach work and challenges. The third interview also included a case, but this time more focused on the customer relations part of the job. The case gave them more insights in how you would deal with customers. Again, no right or wrong, but valuable insights in how you approach such situations. The last interview was with the head of the branch. Conversation which focused on getting to know more about my personality and characteristics. During each interview round, I was able to ask questions to which they gave me useful answers. Overall had a positive experience during the interview process. Flexport offered me an entry position (for fresh graduates) instead of a the global operations associate role (I have and MBA and 6 years of international work experience in operations). Without giving any clear arguments or reason for this decision, I declined the entry position. I I did not feel appreciated and was surprised that Flexport failed to recognize capable and suitable candidates for the position (needless to say, this is my personal opinion). The general reviews of Flexport interviews here on glassdoor is pretty horrible to read, luckily my experience wasn't as bad as some portray it here. I've seen Ryan read and reply to posts on here before, so I hope this helps to improve the recruitment process. I think Flexport is doing great things, but as many scale-ups, they're struggling with growing pains. I wish Flexport all the best.

      Interview

there were three stages: a regular interview with questions such as telling the interviewer about yourself and some STAR style questions, a case study interview surrounding dealing with an unhappy client/losing client’s supplies, and an interview which surrounded questions on drive and resilience.
