I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at GitLab in Oct 2019
Interview
The interview process was complete and pleasant - I met with several people at varying levels on the People Ops team which allowed me to get a good picture of the team and culture. The GitLab team was always available for any questions that arose on my end, before or after official interviews. Everyone I spoke with was kind and approachable, which made the dynamic of the interview much more natural. Great company with a clear mission and values - I can't wait to get started!

Question 1
We all make mistakes we wish we could take back. Tell me about a time you wish you’d handled a situation differently with a colleague.
I applied online. I interviewed at GitLab (London, England)
Interview
Friendly recruiter, interesting questions, did not feel stressed out, it was easy to talk to the recruiter. I had an interview with the hiring manager, which was not as easy as the initial interview. The overall experience was very positive.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GitLab in Sep 2018
Interview
I started with an initial interview then was moved along to other team members. All was going very well and I was moved along to a third interview. While attempting to connect to the third interview, the link that I was provided didn't work and I didn't have the contact information for the person I was interviewing with. I reached out using all platforms I knew to those I've made connection with already in the company. I heard back from someone on the People Ops team apologizing and confirming I will hear back from the recruiter to reschedule the interview. Two days later, I get a generic rejection email saying the position was filled when I was still going through the interview process! I wrote them back stating my confusion and asked them to please let me know what happened and why my interview was never rescheduled. I never heard back from any of them - ghosted.
I read through GitLab's entire handbook several times and this is exactly the kind of behavior they don't want to have in their company. It was very disappointing the way I was treated. I really think they're a great company and have huge potential, it's a shame their policies don't seem to be holding up much from an outsiders perspective. It seems like the People Ops team may need some additional help keeping organized. I'm still up for the challenge if you could use someone who would roll up their sleeves and ensure this kind of representation doesn't happen again. Either way, I wish the company the best of luck and I hope this review is helpful.
