Worst experience ever. It was an HR round but hiring manager joined the call. I got panicked and was unable to answer questions. I went blank and wanted to leave the meeting.

Interview
Online interview with mostly focusing around Node.js and backend development questions, mostly because of the role requirement and my past professional experience. I answered almost all of them. Also included Database questions.

Question 1
HR had communicated that the interview would be a discussion based competency evaluation.
However, the interviewer unexpectedly asked me to present a case study.
As a result, the conversation remained fairly generic and surface level focussed on Figma screens, which felt misaligned with the depth typically expected for a leadership role.
In the final Q&A, I asked about the company’s vision for design at an org. level.
The response was that design should be “a part of everything.”
However, when I followed up on current practices, the interviewer explained how PMs typically define solutions, create wireframes using AI tools, and then involve UX team for Figma based UI design before handover to Engineering
These two statements felt contradictory, suggesting a gap between the stated vision and the actual practice, and raising concerns about the maturity of the design culture.
