      Customer Success Manager Interview

      Mar 28, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Gong (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2019

      Interview

Overall, the interview process was executed with professionalism. The recruiter scheduled the initial call and follow up regarding next steps was clearly communicated. Prior to the onsite interview, I had a phone screen with the VP of Customer Success. Shortly after our conversation, the recruiter reached out to schedule an onsite interview with both the Manager and VP of Customer Success. The final interview was a Zoom meeting with the COO. Given my interview experience with Gong, I was surprised to see the negative reviews on Glassdoor. Perhaps Gong has made mistakes in the past, but they seem quick to make the appropriate changes to improve the overall interview processes. Everyone made an effort to be involved and engaged.

      Question 1

High level - The interview process was focused around the portfolio management piece, determining success for customers, internal projects I've worked on outside of client management, and situational questions.

The CS Team candidates are crushing it with their interviews! Welcome to our Gong family!!! And — thanks for the shoutout about making mistakes but making appropriate changes to fix them! We're trying very hard to create an incredible candidate journey — which is why we're building out an internal team. I'm so happy though that you got to experience some of that hard work! Excited to see the CS Team growing with talent like you! Soon to be your favorite Gongster, Eric Lindroos

      Application

      Interview

Really disappointed with my experience with Gong, I use their product and think it’s great. I didn’t officially apply for the role but was contacted by the recruiter for an exploratory chat. After a couple of questions around my background, the recruiter immediately decided that I should be put forward for a less senior role despite my experience and I didn’t get a chance to ask a few questions and the recruiter said they had to run and could only answer 1. Although I didn’t officially apply, I received a rejection email which I find insulting especially as this was meant to be an exploratory chat.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Gong in Jul 2021

      Interview

Spent 30 minutes talking to the recruiter, who started the conversation by saying "your current company uses Gong, so I don't have to tell you about us" and then diving into asking me questions. Considering the job market and options that employees have, the lack of even attempting to tell me what's so great about Gong was offsetting. It was almost the attitude of "we're great and I shouldn't have to sell you; everyone should want to work here". I was also asked 3 different times in 30 minutes how many accounts/how much ARR I manage, which made it seem like the recruiter wasn't even paying attention. Set up the next call to meet with the hiring manager, but I ended up canceling because the experience was lackluster.

Thank you for your feedback on your experience with our recruiting team. I am sorry to hear that it was not a great one. I have flagged this to our recruiter -- your feedback helps us improve and I truly appreciate it. Our goal is to create raving fans, including candidates, and we clearly fell short here. We'll do better. Emily Campana -- VP Talent Acquisition, Gong
