      Sales Development Representative Interview

      Oct 30, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gong (San Francisco, CA) in May 2019

      Interview

A close friend had just completed the interview process with Gong and accepted an offer and was so hyped up after the experience that they insisted we get coffee to talk about why I should apply. We were both wrapping up our senior year of college, so I was in the final round interviews of 4 other companies when I started talking to Gong. From the very first call I had with Gong, I could see exactly why my friend had felt as strongly as he did; they were attentive, energetic, and passionate about their roles and the company. Eric, the recruiter, was absolutely incredible, and when I called him a day before I would be in SF saying I'd just received another offer deadline and would need to speed up the process with Gong in order to have a decision in time, he stopped what he was doing, immediately called me, and was able to fit me in for 2 onsite interviews the very following afternoon. From the minute I stepped into the office, I felt welcomed and excited about the potential to see myself working there everyday -- not to mention the fact they handed me an extra burrito from the catered lunch and let me stay and eat with the team. Might be a little biased as I work here now, but honestly can't imagine a smoother interview process, and to this day Eric is one of the people I look up to most for his seemingly limitless willingness to help us be successful (no matter the role) and his compassion. Thank you Eric and Gong!

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Why sales? Why Gong? Tell us about yourself, etc... Can't remember specific ones off the top-of-my-head, but in general very conversational and comfortable, had the opportunity to ask them questions which I had a lot of. (and their answers were very telling of the feel of the company)

I'm not kidding — I just teared up a little!! Like — no joke!! I am having wine as I read this/reply (it's 5:49 pm after all!) — so that may be part of the reason! Without calling you out — we're so lucky that you joined Gong!! (Given the detail of your candidate journey — you're an easy guess!) I speak for Gong when I say — we're beyond excited to see the continued success you're bound for!! Keep crushing it, Your Gong recruiter who is crying and drinking wine : )

very straightforward and pretty easy to follow. They give you a lot of content on what they are looking for and how you can do well in the interview by studying up on the content they provide.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Gong (New York, NY) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Phone call screen with recruiter, basic questions around experience, what you are looking for. Then you have 3 30 minute interviews with various SDR managers asking more behavioral type questions and one of them also being a cold call role play. At the end of the day do not apply unless you have previous SaaS experience even if you have a previous sales background. Managers can tell you they have no reservations about you being hired to the team, do a great job on the cold call role play (even being told I can tell you were very prepared and coachable). You will not get the job and waste your time. Overall experience was positive, if you don't want people without a SaaS background this should be screened before interviews start.

      Anonymous employee
      Chicago, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Gong (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2022

      Interview

The interview process was one of the most intense I’ve gone through but also the most rewarding. Everyone is so kind and helpful and if you put the effort in to really learn the company and be able to showcase that, the interviews become fun and not as nerve racking. They send you a lot of information before each interview and really prepare you for it. Make sure to ask really good questions in each interview - above the surface level kind of questions. From phone screen to offer the interview process took about a week and a half. I had 5 interviews total: -phone screen with recruiter -3 interviews with different managers and a mock in one of those sessions as well (you get two chances to do the mock - they aren’t looking for perfection, they’re looking for a foundation to build on - that you’re coachable) -1 interview with the director of sales development and then they check your references It’s a quick process! Gong is a great company to work for and their interview process shows that.
