I recently went through “the ringer” with Gong and it was a great experience.
To start, Christina Bratsch, my recruiter, was amazing! She set the expectation up front for what the process would look like and the job responsibilities, answered my questions in detail, and always helped me with the next round interview - thank you, Christina!
For the HM, I had the pleasure to be interviewed by Emily Pease. I could tell quickly that she knows how to read people and I imagine uses that a lot to motivate her team in performing well. She asked good behavioral questions to learn how I think about different circumstances and find my way through adversity. I would have felt very comfortable under her leadership.
After this came the best part - the mock interview!! It was a standard B2B disco call where I needed to inevitably get a date for a demo. Bryan Tucker & Jordan Woolbright did a great job at navigating through this and gave feedback half way through for me to implement. Very well constructed.
After this, I met with Justin Geller, Head of Commercial. Much like Emily, Justin did well in reading me, starting with a good ice breaker to remind us we’re human. He dig deeper into my background to see what my drive is. This is where it all went wrong for me as I could tell it didn’t impress him. All I really want is meaningful work & meaningful relationships, which isn’t the sexiest thing to say in a Growth-like AE role. He was great nonetheless!
The final challenge round was with the big man himself - Jameson Yung, VO of Sales. In terms of the agenda, it was kind of the same as Justin’s and if I’m looking back at it now, I’m pretty sure it was to give me a second chance with my motivation and what drives me. So, it’s safe to say I didn’t impress Jameson either. I’ll have to work on that moving forward.
At the end, I didn’t get an offer and I hate to have wasted the time of everyone involved. It was great to interact with each of them though and I’ll be implementing the feedback to learn from it.
PS: this is coming from someone who currently works at a competitor of Gong. They have a great team!
