I applied online through the Houston Symphony website. A couple of hours later, I received a phone call from the man doing the interviews, and it was a basic phone screening. "Why are you interested?" "Do you play an instrument?" not sure how playing an instrument will make me a better HR candidate, but that's one of the questions. I also got asked what salary I want, which is an odd question to ask (IMO). But the man was caught up that I left my job and asked me twice about it. At the end of the phone call, he told me that maybe he won't follow up with me because I left my job without a job lineup. This man wasted 30 minutes of my time. I did not hide that I was unemployed on the application, therefore I'm confused on why he called. Also, confused on how he is in the position of judgment when he told me the HR coordinator is leaving by the end of the week, by his logic he should've already interviewed and had someone ready to take over the position before the HR coordinator left. Word of advice, time to let go of old school work culture or you'll have nothing but a revolving door of employees.
