    Associate Interview

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at Industrial Economics Incorporated. (Boston, MA) in July 2015.

    Interview

3 weeks after I applied, I went through a phone screen with one of the senior associates first, who explained the role and asked me some basic questions about my background. 3 weeks later, I went into the office for an in-person interview. This consisted of 3 1:1 interviews, a problem solving session on Excel, a presentation, and lunch with associates. The presentation was on my research project and was fairly straightforward. The problem solving session was about exploratory data analysis on two data sets of energy and temperature in Boston/Miami. I asked for feedback after my interview and the rationale behind not getting an offer was that I didn't clearly express interest in the role and that I didn't demonstrate sufficient evidence of critical thinking in the problem solving session.

    Interview Questions

    • In the problem solving session, if you could not calculate the daily energy rate, what additional information/data would you need to do the calculation?   Answer Question
    • What kind of projects are you interested in doing?   Answer Question

    Interview

30 minute phone screen. Basic Interview questions, nothing too complicated- asked things like "why do you want to work with industrial econ" and "give me an example of a challenge you faced while working in a group". I was I was told that I would hear back within two weeks, but it took a month.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 days. I interviewed at Industrial Economics Incorporated. (Boston, MA) in May 2015.

    Interview

applied online. submitted a cover letter, resume, transcript. HR emails you to schedule a 10 minute phone screen. they spend 1/3 of the time explaining the role in detail. the relatively inactive, "sit-down-for-excruciatingly-long-periods-of-time" description put me off immediately. the remaining 2/3 focused on why you are interested in the position and answering any of your questions.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Industrial Economics Incorporated. (Cambridge, MA) in May 2014.

    Interview

Full day interview, you have multiple people come in and ask you about your schooling, research and work experience, and technical ability. Brief (hour-long) problem-solving exercise in Excel that is fairly straightforward. Process seems very cold/stoic but it is actually pretty straightforward.

    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

The process took 5+ months. I interviewed at Industrial Economics Incorporated. (Cambridge, MA) in January 2011.

    Interview

The process was very lengthy and the firm was slow to respond at all stages of the process. Hiring activity is reviewed by committee, which apparently does not meet with regularity. The company is also admittedly slow to add new jobs and prefers a reactive approach to contract demand. The company repeatedly missed their own deadlines in delivering decision notifications.

    Interview Questions

    • Questions were standard, relating to why you are a good fit, goals, and behavioral interviewing (e.g. tell me about a time when you missed a deadline, worked as a team, etc.).   Answer Question
    • There is also a more 'technical' review, depending on the position you are interviewing for. This might be a simple or more complex cost-benefit analysis similar to the type of work they would do in reviewing EPA standards.   1 Answer

    Interview

Long and drawn out hiring process. Took several months to hear back after submitting the initial application, and then many weeks to hear about an offer after going on the in person interview. Very friendly HR and interview staff - meet with a lot of people and really get a good sense of the company.
