My impression is that the company suffers from a lack of internal communication (kind of ironic in light of its business) and is extremely disorganized. I applied for a job in NY. I got contacted by the internal recruiter/HR person located --in Texas-- who also (unintentionally, I should think) forwarded the email she got from the person the position reported to -- In NY -- expressing why she thought I was worth considering. I spoke on the phone with the Texas rep who then said she'd pass on results to NY person and if that person agreed set up the interview. She then confirmed the interview time but failed to give the location. I found a location on the email from the NY person that had been forwarded and asked if that was it. The Texas rep confirmed it was but offered no further info about a floor.
When I got to the office, the security guard said my name had not been submitted, so they could not let me in until they called Informa and got that. They then told me to go to a particular floor where the person at the reception desk seemed to know nothing about it. He then tried to call the person I was meeting with but said she was in a meeting. He figured that perhaps she was slated for a meeting with me, but she had apparently not communicated to anyone to direct me to where she was. Finally she met me at the reception desk, and we had to move to another floor where we began the interview in a meeting room. A few minutes in, some people came and said they needed that room, so we had to move to another.
The interview itself went fine. But the follow up showed both incompetence and lack of consideration. As the NY person told me to expect, the Texas person sent me tasks to test my writing, editing, and social media posting skills (BTW they offer no compensation for these things that take up quite a bit of time). On the email with the assignment that arrived at about 10:40 AM, she said it was due by 8 AM that day. I pointed out that was impossible, and she then gave me until Friday at 8 AM. I made sure to get everything in by Thursday night. I never got a confirmation that they got it. My guess is that they never even looked at it. I send on an email to the NY person and never heard back from her. After a week elapsed, I emailed the Texas person with a CC to the NY one and then got a call from the Texas person saying that the NY person decided to not hire me, though she made it sound like that was solely due to my resume and interview and not to the assignments. In other words, the assignments are there to waste your time that they clearly do not value.
