I met with HR and the hiring manager. Both people were nice, but I was promptly rejected a day later. I think I was overqualified for the role since I was more senior than the role entailed.
It’s disappointing to do so well with an interview or at least have all the qualifications and then HR just sends a generic “thanks but no thanks” email.
For context for anyone reading this, I have over 10 yrs of customer support experience while also being in implementation roles in healthcare IT and networking/cyber security training. One of my references was someone the hiring manager had interviewed with. I’ve deployed software and know sql more than this job required. I’ve worked for startups and large businesses...and I was still rejected. So make sure talk down your accomplishments if you want the role.

First step was a phone screen with a recruiter (from third party agency) and then a Zoom with hiring manager. Call went well enough and the hiring manager told me she was checking the C-suite calendar to pass me along for the next round only to tell the recruiter not even ten minutes later that I wasn't moving forward. I'm wondering if they're just interviewing and picking people's brains for ideas for their new CS team.
At any rate, just be honest with people. This is a bad look and this market is already so difficult as it is. It costs you nothing to be upfront with people giving you their time.
