I was verbally offered a position by two employees so followed up by email to request a formal offer letter. In that same message, I raised a serious safety concern involving another employee with whom I have a documented history of domestic abuse, and I asked what measures the school had in place to ensure a safe working environment.
I did not receive a response to these questions. I later became aware that information about my inquiry had been shared in a way that escalated the situation with my abuser and caused significant distress and safety concerns for me and my child.
From my perspective, the handling of this situation did not reflect a strong emphasis on addressing reported safety concerns involving employees. In a school setting, this felt especially concerning. I would strongly encourage the organization to improve how it manages confidential, safety-related disclosures and to ensure that individuals who raise such concerns are protected and taken seriously.
