I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Jump Trading (Chicago, IL) in Nov 2009
Interview
First screening interview was on campus. This involved initial questions about my resume as well as two brain teasers. I wasn't able to actually completely solve either of them, but my thinking process was evidently sufficient for them to grant me an on-site in Chicago.
Booked a room, flew out and then went through ~4 hours of interviews. First one was with the founder; it went terribly. He just couldn't get over the fact that I'm changing careers and wouldn't let it go. I completely aced all of the rest of the interviews, which were extremely easy (literally things I did in HS): programming a circular buffer, various number theory ques, various probability ques.
Not suprisingly, acing the technical part didn't make up for the fact that the founder didn't like me! No offer.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Jump Trading in Apr 2023
Interview
I applied via their website. The HR reached out to me by mail for an interview with the business development team. I had a 2 hour zoom interview with them. I feel like that they brought me in only to gather information about the market and that they were not looking to hire.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Jump Trading
Interview
5 rounds of interviews, 4 technical phone screens, and one all day virtual onsite that was 6 hours long. Need to be good at everything - linear algebra/probability, algorithms/data structures, etc. C++ is strongly preferred for a lot of the smaller HFT teams.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
For uniform (0,1) random independent variables 𝑈1,𝑈2,… define 𝑁=min{ 𝑛: ∑ 𝑈𝑖>1} where sum is from i = 0 to n What is 𝐸[𝑁]
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Jump Trading (Boston, MA) in Oct 2016
Interview
I got the on-campus interview after application. The interview started from self-introduction, some questions in the rusume, and then moved to brainteasers and statistical questions quickly. They will guide you if you meet any questions.
