      Clinical Document Specialist Interview

      Sep 17, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Labcorp in Aug 2022

      Interview

Had an initial phone call with one of their recruiters who wanted to get to know a bit more about me, this just went over previous employment and a few very basic information gathering type questions - nothing I needed to prepare for. However, salary negotiations were led entirely by the applicant during this call (they typically offer between 20-25k for this role, but we agreed on 22k due to my past experience dealing with NHS clinical documents). I was then given the opportunity to ask any questions I had about the job role - when I asked a very relevant question about something on the job description I was met with "I'm glad you didn't ask that at interview" - which left me feeling uneasy about the role as I that felt that from our discussion, many important details were omitted from the job description and I was being penalised for asking for clarification. Was then told by the recruiter that they were doing these pre-interview calls for numerous other applicants and that I wouldn't hear back for a few weeks. However, a week later I was invited to a video interview with the team manager and another team member, which lasted for over an hour. Again nothing particularly difficult but they asked a few odd, non-traditional questions which I felt were difficult to answer. Immediately after my interview I had a notification to say the team manager had viewed my LinkedIn profile. Then I had an email 2 weeks post-interview from the initial recruitment person wanting to arrange a telephone call to discuss the outcome of my interview - no other details. During this phone call I was basically told they felt I was too experienced for the role and that they had picked another person (turns out they had only interviewed 2 applicants) and this person was going to "step into" the role - the recruiter insinuated that they thought it would be a step down for me, despite the proposed wage myself and the recruiter had agreed on being in the middle of their typical offer range due to my degree and past experience, and not the upper end, which was reserved for "postgraduates" with post graduate experience???? I was then asked if I was interviewing elsewhere, to which I replied yes - and the recruitment person wanted to know the details despite me being unsuccessful in the position I had interviewed for with Labcorp so why was it any of their business. Overall a very long winded process, where the phone call to discuss the outcome of my interview was very misleading and would've been sufficient as an email.
