This company specialized in Social Media analytics - gaining business insights from what people are saying in conversations on Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media channels. They had particular expertise in working with healthcare companies. My masters thesis was on the use of Social Media in healthcare, so I was attracted to this company.
I completed a phone screening and an analytical skills test prior to the in-person interview. While I got the in-person interview, the hiring manager gave the impression throughout the process that he either didn't believe my background to be truthful and/or that he thought I was hiding something. This put me off some, but I went to the interview with an open mind.
At the in-person interview, the hiring manager spent much of the time asking about my Master's Thesis research. And again he gave the impression that he didn't believe me. The second person I was supposed to meet with cancelled on us, so I was at the office less than an hour.
The worst part of the experience was how I was treated afterwards. They didn't even respond to let me know that they had rejected me. The hiring manager had said it would be 1-2 weeks. After almost a month went by with no word from the hiring manager or anyone else at the company, I worked through back channels and found out that they had long since hired someone else. Very rude, even in these hard economic times when many employers know they have job seekers over the barrel and can get away with ignoring basic courtesies.
