First you’ll need to take an interview through hirevue which taking pre-record video. You probably feel uncomfortable because you’ll talking to the computer without interaction. After you passed the interview, you’ll need to obtain the secret clearance. It could be take 12 months or over.
- Tell me about yourself. What was the last project

Interview was conducted online, without a proctor. It allowed you to read the question, think of your answer for about thirty seconds, and then record. If you didn't like your answer you had another attempt to record.
- Tell me about the culture of the language you speak.

Long but pretty simple for the most part. The entire process was about 7 months. Very deep investigation, not difficult at all. Always wanted a similar job as a child.

Long process, had an interview online. Just behavioral questions. some interview may be technical. overall, pretty easy process just takes some time to hear back so don't get too discouraged
- how can you leverage your skills in order to fit with the goals of the agency

Virtual HireVue interview which were about average to easy in difficulty. I didn’t really think the questions were all that difficult but did help them gauge expertise on the topics.
- Name three types of attacks and how to mitigate them

First step was the Data Science exam, which was a multiple choice math exam. Questions about stat, algorithms, linear algebra, calculus, .... it was overall an easy exam but the timing was limited. I passed that exam. Then I had three technical & behavioral interviews. Very nice and friendly people, and different levels of questions from easy to hard. Then I was waiting for a while until I received the news that I am selected, and then few month later the offer came! However, the offer was very underwhelming (between $125-135K for a senior data scientist in Maryland!!). Specially, I have more than a decade of research experience and graduated from one of the top Universities in the US! I've always wanted to work for NSA due to interesting projects they have, but I should have got a pay cut of more than 20K to work there!! Overall, the long process and wasted efforts didn't worth the offer I received, and I believe good data scientist should be able to get much better offers elsewhere! Seems NSA hasn't adjusted it's income levels for inflation and of course the high demand for data scientists! Unless you don't care about money at all, I don't recommend applying because it's a very long and fruitless process!

Only made it to the first stage which was an online interview of me recording myself answering prompted questions. There were more stages beyond that but I didn't make it that far.
- What experience do you have with backend systems?

Anonymous Interview Candidate
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at National Security Agency
I applied, was referred to another position, requested to send updated information, and then the interview was scheduled. (copying this multiple times to add more words) I applied, was referred to another position, requested to send updated information, and then the interview was scheduled.
- Why do you want to work for the NSA? What programming languages do you know? Behavioral interview questions. Define yourself in three words. How would your professors define you if they only used one word?

Interview was two parts: (1) an online assessment that could be completed in about 20 days, (2) 9 recorded interview questions ranging from personal to technical. I thought it was fun in general.
- They asked me why I thought I would be a good fit for the role.

I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at National Security Agency (Norfolk, VA) in Dec 2022
Was about an hour long, and was with three other people through video call. It was a casual conversation-like interview that felt very comfortable. There were few technical questions and they were mostly curious about my particular area of interest.
- What field of study are you most interested in?
