      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at National University (Los Angeles, CA) in Jun 2015

      Interview

After submitting my resume for the instructor / Adjuct professor position, I was invited for an interview by the department head. It was not a pressure situation since the person conducting the interview was very pleasant. They didn't waste time, getting to the point quickly as the the job requirements and what my teaching philosophy.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Real-life questions. What is your teaching philosophy? What are you bringing to the position. How can you help the students with real-life challenges in the industry?

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at National University (San Diego, CA) in Mar 2024

      Interview

The second round interview panel acted like they didn't want to be there, as if they were just going through the motions. They were very non-responsive/nonreactive to my answers to their interview questions until I explicitly asked for feedback toward the end of the interview. I specifically asked how I stack up against other candidates, and a senior executive said point blank that I would be a good diversity hire (I'm a black woman). Long application/interview process (1 month between each step: application > first interview > second interview), with very poor communication/ghosting from both the HR rep and the hiring manager between steps. At the end of the day, I was able to learn more about the role and it prepped me to interview for similar roles at other companies. So that's a silver lining :)

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A lot of situational questions about how I would handle issues/conflicts in the role, as well as soft ball questions like "Tell me something about yourself that I wouldn't get from your resume."
