      Interview

Take computer test and do interview. I spoke to a personnel individual, and a manager who is no longer with the company. My understanding now is they almost hire anyone who comes in the door, and churn through employees. Hiring process is ongoing, due to lack of retention, not really opportunities.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at NexxLinx (Orono, ME) in Aug 2011

      Interview

Friends who worked for the company told me about the open positions. I went in and filled out a paper job application; I received a call six hours after dropping off my application. We set a date and time for the interview for early in the following week. When I arrived for the interview, I took a typing test to check my words per minute and accuracy of typing; the room was rectangular with about ten computers set up on each of two sides, another side set up with a bulletin board, and the final side set up with additional large office equipment (copiers). This test was reading the random words on the screen and typing them verbatim. It did not allow the person to correct anything and placing a letter in a space also counted against the typist. After this test, I was escorted back to the waiting room. My interviewer arrived half an hour later. Dressed in a beat-up polo and khaki shorts, at first glance, I would not have thought him a supervisor. He chatted with the personnel at the front desk for about ten minutes before leading me to a conference room to ask me questions to probe what I knew about job-related tasks. In the middle of the interview, he pulled out an availability sheet and passed it to me, telling me that I was hired; he instructed me what hours to put down for my availability and recollected the sheet. After, he instructed me on the dress code that was to be implemented the following week. However, the human resources personnel were much more helpful as he just told me that what I was wearing was fine (my interview best: a new suit and new shoes).
