      Director of Information Technology Interview

      May 27, 2015
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at O'Reilly Media (San Francisco, CA) in May 2015

      Interview

The interview was with the recruiting manager After after 5 minutes she said that she thought that I was not the best fit after getting a feel for my experience. She said they were looking for someone more technical with a computer science degree. I have a CS degree and am a full stack developer. It seemed that that she did not have my resume or had no technical knowledge to understand it. We continued the interview but it was clear she had decided to pass on me and kept trying to find things that I did not do. In the end she stated that I was not a fit as I had not worked for a large corporation even though the job description specifically asked for start up experience.

Thank you for posting the review. It's always great to hear feedback from potential candidates. Having reviewed resumes, there is then an initial phone interview with me, the Recruiting Manager, this is exploratory to find out if there is a mutual fit. The Director position is a crucial hire for us, and we are looking for a lot, however start up experience is not essential, in fact we're looking for someone who has recent experience managing a team, and managing large-scale technical projects within a multi-site environment. I'm sorry you were not concerned for the next step in the interview process, but would be happy to consider you for other positions. Good luck in your job search.
